New Orleans Born and Raised
New Orleans is a special place to many but it's my blank canvas every day! My clients have the opportunity to create events from the natural resources the city offers and make it their own private experience. In my 24 years of capturing wedding photography, I haven't had many brides rent a street car. Can you believe that? I often wonder what else can we do in this city that people just aren't aware of?
My bride Arlie, loves the natural beauty of the Oak trees and outdoor goodness. We spoke before the wedding about a timeline that would work the best for the locations she wanted to use. Together we looked at the sun's timeline for her wedding day and talked about what to do and where! I am a huge believer in open communication and proper planning will always help you create awesomeness for your event. We had the street car pick us up by the hotel everyone was getting dressed at and transported us to Holy Name Church right across from Audubon Park. We knew what time we needed to get to the park so, we can capture images with her bridal party and family. I was smiling so big when we exited the streetcar and God's light was perfectly waiting for us!
When we arrived at the Audubon Clubhouse for her reception I walked outside to see what options I might have for the end of the night imagery. I was a little concerned because MAN IT WAS DARK! The Oak Trees were illuminated by spotlights and I wasn't sure if I could use them with my bride and groom. This style of uplighting is great for accenting texture of the structure being lit.
The reception was in it's last 30 minutes when I finally decided to bring them outside. I was pleasantly surprised to see how the spotlight didn't BLOW THEM AWAY! I was really afraid of exposing for the bright spotlight because it would leave the trees in pitch darkness. I used my creative brain and figured it all out. I always enjoy creating a new image from ground up. The first time created is always the most impressive. :)
Stay Focused on Your Dreams- GK
I have a very busy weekend so yesterday I created a video where I talk to my SUBS! This coming week I'll be talking about "Seeing the Light" and how you can create moods in your imagery or videos. Light is everything so join us on Youtube for a fun exercise and learn how to "See the Light!"
This year closes out in 2018 as the year of growth. Not all growth comes from money, yet personal growth is way more important. If you aren't happy with your life then all of the better aspects of yourself is most likely lacking. You know that feeling when you are "ON" for everyone else like nothing is wrong, but things are very different in your mind. I get it it trust me. Being the best version of yourself ALL THE TIME is easier said than done. If you look at me and my presence online you would swear I own 2 yachts, a house in Bermuda and every aspect of my happiness is lived every single day.
Truth be told, I have many days of self doubt even with so much success. I am 47 years old working in a young industry. Trust me when I tell you feeling like the odd man out sometimes takes over my thoughts. This creates self doubt, negative self esteem and no drive to move forward.
I'm only sharing this with you because I know someone reading this NEEDED to hear this today. Life is the real deal. We are given adversity because we only grow as a human by solving the problems we are having and finding peace on the other side. I could honestly give a seminar on this topic.
At this moment in time, I am all over the social media world. I love my Youtube channel and the positive people I surround myself with. I'm on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, Blog site, and the list will continue I'm sure. Each platform has it's own purpose. I love the diversity. I love the opportunity to "SHOW UP" in this industry in uniquely different ways. You may be telling yourself, whoa...I don't have time for all that stuff! There is nothing wrong with knowing your limits. I love my industry but most importantly I love what the industry is moving towards.
You may see the division from all of the socials listed, but at the same time it brings us all together. I follow people on Youtube who are all over the world. Do you know what the common thread is? We are all human going through the same stuff with life!
Where am I going with this? You are human. You are not perfect. Most importantly, the people you compare yourself to online aren't perfect either. I want you to invest in yourself this year! You will gain more real friends in your life when you are happy with YOU!
Cheers to 2019! This is the year humans grow with each other instead of against each other! -GK
I am presently working on a video for my Youtube channel that explains how my engagement sessions truly evolve. I am not a big fan of posing couples on my engagement sessions. I am more interested in the REACTIVE process to how we work together. When you hire your wedding photographer, you are hiring a personality that will always be attached to your wedding memories. This is how important I see weddings in my head. I attract couples who are fun, down to Earth people who want to soak up every ounce of their wedding experience through laughter.
Let's face it...I'm a fun guy! I am that seasoned pro who still captures every job as if it was my first. I will always remember that feeling of importance because it never leaves my soul. Just ask Elizabeth if I still get nervous before weddings and she will tell you...YEP!
FACT: I am a Photographic Crafstman, PPA Certified and I love teaching the technical stuff to other pro photographers.
TRUTH: I never talk about my awards or comas after my name because it just isn't who I am or what I'm about.
When I was heavily involved with PPA (Professional Photographers of America) I was teaching photographers all around the country on the technical things but usually ended up in conversation about the human experiences. I am truly honored to have been the teacher and the student because I understand both sides. I use all the knowledge I have every time I pick up my camera. The search for the perfect shot to share with the world becomes addictive.
Photography to me is so much greater than just taking a picture the technical way. I believe my camera is the tool I use everyday while working with people to tell their stories. Wedding photography has always been my favorite. I think I'm in love with the importance of the job while capturing such an important day in your life. The relationship we both share makes it a blessing to also photograph your future family as well.
Elizabeth and I have been married for 19 years now. I can easily tell you the most important aspect of a marriage is "Laughter." You are probably thinking, huh?
Money is a tangible object we need for all the other tangible items in our lives such as, home, job, school, electricity, vehicles, etc.
It's what you cannot see that actually keeps you powering through this thing called life. If you are still laughing with your spouse after many years like Elizabeth and I, then you understand perfectly. I love pulling out the laughter within my couples for their engagement session because we shouldn't take life too seriously.
I still get excited when I see couples laugh at each other. There is a genuine emotion that exudes from the eyes when love is real. Can you see it in the images posted?
It's only days away until your reset button for the New Year is pressed. How are you getting ready for it? Do you have any ideas you would like to implement for your life or business? Do you want nothing to change and live life as you are?
Any of the answers are completely fine because they pertain to you and you only!
I find the end of the year to be both scary and exciting. I would love to hear your thoughts?
2 weeks left of 2018. hmmm, what to do? I challenge you to design a viable plan to take the homeless from under the bridge to a facility that can evolve and prosper as a model for the rest of the country to follow. The United States is going through a major incoming with refugees from other countries yet we haven't solved our own homeless problem yet. Where are they going to go? WHAT is the plan? If we devise a plan lets put America first and pave the way. Wouldn't it be awesome if the grand idea came from someone in New Orleans? Just saying...
Youtube video about this topic is on the way...
Let me explain. I love having something to look forward to. I love knowing he have time to get ready for the next big thing. I like knowing Christmas is coming but it's not actually here yet, so we are all happy, funny, joyful and just plain old expecting a Christmas miracle. You know what I mean when I say Christmas is here but just not yet. I feel like once it gets here, we are all transformed back to normal-ville and the negative vibes slip back in. In 2019 I vow to NOT Let that happen.
I am going to keep sending the great vibes from Christmas week throughout the year. I'll do it on my Youtube channel. Before you write off Youtube like some spoiled kids gaming channel, there is something you must know.
You used to have to become famous musician, politician, California celebrity...you DON'T ANYMORE. Youtube allows me to speak my mind, encourage others who think like I do to motivate the world from the negative into the positive light. I know it sounds korny but you just aren't there yet.
Remember when the public thought Facebook was just for the kids? How about the possiblity of computers stronger then the Apollo mission would be in your pocket? Are you THAT person or do you want to be along for the ride. I want to help drive the vehicle that gets me there the fastest. Youtube. It's a platform that allows you to post videos of whatever you want.
We creators and motivators see the opportunity to change the world one subscriber at a time. There is a movement going on right beneath your nose and the national news will never show you these options because it doesn't make them any money. I'll be making a video soon about the following.
I had a vision today about the stupidity of our leaders and there decision making. We presently have so many homeless people under the bridge you can just about give them a name for there area like a new city or parish. The people that fled from other countries to enter our country...where are they going to go? How can we possibly create an answer for them when our own homeless problem has not been solved?
WOW! All I thought about today was WOW? We have more concern for the MARS missions rather than how we can fix our city's problems like the homeless. Charity hospital is being converted into condos. Did you know that? Our leaders will complain that there is NO WHERE TO PUT THESE HOMELESS PEOPLE, but they will continue to put money in their pockets. I personally don't care how they fix the problem but not seeing any action taking place is depressing. We are the richest country in the world when it comes to quality of people. Lets do the AMAZING and lead the way for awesomeness and create answers for issues that we still haven't solved in decades.
So, you are fleeing your country to come to ours? Where will you go my friends? If under the bridge is better than your country, then you'll be living like kings and queens.
I know we can do more. Don't you?
In the spirit of Christmas I challenge our politicians to create the answer, follow it through and become the leading example for the rest of the country. Just saying...are we awesome humans or not. PROVE IT!
It's not often you get the chance to hang with a Youtuber you greatly admire. Cody has been killing it on Youtube since January. His daily grind is to produce a vlog every single day! He gave himself this challenge back in January 2018 and he is closing out the year with a perfect score. His lovely wife Amber, is not only his supporter but she also has a Youtube channel of her own. The biggest reason why I love the Youtube community, at least the one I'm a part of, is how motivating, supportive and daring we all want to be for each other. Making friends with people like yourself is always a win. The more people in your corner the better.
The business benefit is the love that goes back and forth from your channel to their channel reaches a much higher viewership. This means the other person's 1 million Subscribers will most likely see your videos, at least 1 percent and possibly Subscribe. This business is no different than any other business. It takes drive, motivation and you MUST have the love for the daily GRIND! If any of the things I just mentioned is not in your vision then stay at the job you already have. Success is not over night and when it actually happens.....YOU STILL HAVE TO PRODUCE GOOD QUALITY CONTENT.
Here is a peek into my experience "Hanging with Cody Wanner!"
Everyone deals with stress in different ways. Getting freaked out within seconds can happen but the resolve will take hours if not days. Today's vlog expresses the concern for stress and your health. This is not a perfect world we live in, yet we all strive to be perfect in same way shape or form.
Happy Sunday! I realized this week how important it is for us humans to help each other not only Stay Focused on our dreams yet throwing positivity in the faces of people who don't believe. I watched 2 Youtube vids the other day and both people were from different ends of the globe. Both of these creatives said the same thing about this world. Sharing videos and virtually meeting people from all over the world reminds us how much THE SAME we are as people, just different locations and lifestyle.
I thought that was so cool. Believing this world can change from its aggressive negativity is absolutely real. I believe in this lifetime I will see forward progress in less hate, prejudice, and general snubbing the nose to others you don't understand.
This life isn't very difficult to live ya know? We tend to mess things up and make it much harder than it was meant to be.
If we help each other progress, create the things that will benefit our species and learn how much we ALL have to offer this world through our differences, we become what we were meant to be. I am going to make a video on this topic this week because this post can get really long if I keep going.
If you are in this group most likely you feel the same way. You know everything is possible through leadership, belief and drive! I'm proud to be one of the good guys. I'm super proud to know my friends are the same and 2019 is the beginning of a new generation of leaders. Leaders do not start with people in government...it all starts within YOU.
So many movies have been made to get the message across but people somehow like the divide. I don't understand. Star Wars: "Good against Evil"
A Bugs Life: "Ants against the Grasshoppers"
We already have the answers you know?
I am making notes for the video and I have some powerful information to be shared.
We enter this world ignorant yet loving. We are raised to be who we are and learn everything else from those who teach us. It is time to lead.
Welcome to Focused with GK.
