Cheers to FAthers everywhere!
Yesterday was Father's day. I have now experienced Father's Day 18 times. My favorite gifts from the kids are the handwritten cards. Nothing represents the time in their life better than seeing their own handwriting or cute drawings as you try and figure out what it is they drew. :)
Being a father has been my greatest role to date. You leave your singlehood life when you get married. Nothing changes much besides living with someone 24/7. When the 1st child enters the world you tell yourself ...well this will change my life. No more "Me Time", no more "Hang with the boys", no more "Sleep on the couch" because I just feel like it, no more "Gaming on the Xbox"...that's it ...my life is now over.
After 18 years of being a father, I can easily say none of the above holds true. My "Me Time" is now time spent with kids and their activities, my "Hanging with the boys" are just 10-year-olds now instead of hanging in the bar with friends, my "Sleeping on the couch because I just want to", are now called "Daddy Sleepovers" as we stay up late watching the Mandalorian on Disney plus. As for me gaming on the Xbox, my son Jack can now beat me in every game we play.
Life did change. It is so much better than when it was "JUST ME" taking care of me. Life is full of more responsibility for other souls and I can't get enough of it all!
I pray for these kids to have a future living all of the life I tell them that is possible. My kids do NOT know hate, they don't understand this racial division, they only know how to be a positive force in the room. I'm creating leaders, not followers. I guess you can say being a father is my greatest legacy.
Cheers to fathers who are creating the new army of positive, loving humans for the future.
"We Got This!"
