The Photographic Journey
by, George Kuchler
My photography style has changed a lot over the last two decades. You know back in the film days we had to pose everything because we only have so many shots to take on a single roll of film. Posing everything put a less organic feel to the images since they were so static. These days with the digital revolution we have the opportunity to take a bazillion more images and capture more real moments. The one thing I am always loved about photography is how much of a people person iamb and how it applies to my photography now. My approach to every job now is to direct the person in front of me to casually give me a candid moment. I guess this is easier said than done but for me it is my gifted trait that shows in my photography.
I feel like we are living in the days of copycats and being original is becoming harder and harder. Properly capturing natural light in its purest form will always be the best looking photography images to me. The best thing about shooting in natural light is how quick I can shoot and move around without worrying about my light on the stick flashing that my client. Yeah don't get me wrong I used to love how that flash look gave the nightlife some energy but, During the day that's a light will always be king. A true style in photography is obvious to it's viewer. I see many people confusing technique with the word style. When the photographer chooses to use flash or color gels or certain angles… This is all technique. I find that a style more mimics a mood rather than a usable technique.
FORMS OF NATURAL LIGHT
Natural light is any light source that isn't flash generated. The images below are a great way to see the many different forms of using available light. The street light is a fantastic natural light source illuminating an area setting the romantic mood for this image. We all see light everyday and how if creates the mood of the scene. Movie sets are notorious for taking a constant light source and creating a mood for it's actors. I hope you'll see light in it's many forms after reading this post. My profession has me constantly aware of my surroundings. I guess when they say, "Stop and smell the roses"...this is the awareness they are speaking of. :)
